For me, winter really sets in in January when the holidays are over, it’s dark and cold. The Finns even have a word for the feeling you get when the sun never seems to come up – kaamos.
I’m lucky that my job is a flower store, full of life, colour and fragrance. But, I know how difficult it can be to keep your spirits up if you work in an office and come home after dark…
That’s why I put together some tips to use the natural beauty of flowers as a mood booster for this time of the year!
1. Open your eyes. Place a bouquet of flowers where you can see it as soon as you wake up. This splash of life force and happiness will last with you through the rest of your day.
2. Take a break. Put a vase of your favourite flowers on your desk at work. Let’s face it, most work environments (not to mention work itself!) can get a little drab. Taking a mental break and turning to see your flowers will refresh your mental “palette”.
3. Fight for the festive spirit. Try adding something colourful, bright, and festive to your dinner table every night – like a small celebration of another winter day conquered. A single flower, a potted plant, rose petals, or marbles. It may sound silly, but silliness just might be good for us!
Well, that’s making me feel better already! Maybe there’s something to winter after all!
